INRIX Traffic Data
Quick Answer
INRIX traffic data provides nationwide US traffic counts by direction and time of day. SiteZeus offers two INRIX bundles: Traffic Volume - Dayparted (granular counts by time of day, day of week, and direction) and Traffic Volume - Averages (average daily traffic on both sides of the road). The data powers the Traffic tab, traffic visualizations, and your predictive model.
About INRIX
- INRIX traffic data provides nationwide traffic counts by direction and time of day.
- The anonymized information originates from local transport authorities, road sensors, and GPS signals from mobile devices, vehicles, and telematics devices (used by insurance companies to monitor driving).
- Road segments receive annual updates.
- The data supports SiteZeus modeling, traffic visualizations, reporting, and additional applications.
Data Sources
- INRIX Trip Paths: GPS data showing travel patterns
- OpenStreetMap (OSM): a free, crowd-sourced mapping tool
- Public traffic data
Vehicle Types Included
- Personal vehicles and public transportation
- Personal vehicles and light commercial vehicles
- Light commercial vehicles and heavy commercial vehicles
The Two INRIX Bundles
| Bundle | What It Provides |
|---|---|
| Traffic Volume - Dayparted | Granular traffic metrics detailing peak periods, daypart splits, and trip characteristics |
| Traffic Volume - Averages | Average daily traffic by road segment on both sides of the road, so you can determine which side directs the most traffic to your location |
Volume Profiles Data Set
The dayparted volume data was designed specifically to predict traffic volumes for site selection, focusing on arterial road counts where quick-service restaurants typically locate. It is the only vehicle-count database displaying typical vehicles by time of day, day of week, and direction on over 2.65 million miles of roads in the United States.
Note: Department of Transportation volumes are not included because INRIX's average annual daily traffic (AADT) calculation provides greater precision.
Where You See INRIX Data in SiteZeus
- Traffic tab: dayparted traffic counts and visualizations for a selected location
- Predictive model: traffic variables feed your model and appear in Variable Importance
INRIX coverage is US-only, so Canadian projects hide the Traffic sections.
Subscription gate: the detailed hour-by-hour (dayparting) traffic view is gated on the INRIX advanced-traffic subscription. Companies without it see a blurred locked preview with an Unlock Traffic Detail contact-support button; basic road counts stay visible. See Using the Traffic Tab for details.
